  • Application Rates / How to Use

    To ensure successful colonisation by the soil microbes and fungi, simply add 1-2 teaspoon of molasses to 1L of dechlorinated water. Add 0.5g of the included microbes and mix thoroughly. For even Better Results, bubble the water for 8-12 hours.

    When you come to repot your plant or plant your seedling, sprinkle 0.5g of the microbe mix into the hole and place the plants roots directly on top. Finish planting and then water with the molasses �microbe tea to finish.

    For Best Results: Pre-germinate seeds before planting to ensure a viable plant. Only use non-chlorinated water or you may kill the microbes. Simply leave tap water standing for 24 hours before use or use Rain /Well /RO water. Apply Unsulphured blackstrap molasses as a soil feed using de-chlorinated water after 2 weeks to boost the microbial and fungal biomass!

    1. Choose the Right Water:

    • Avoid Hard Tap Water: If your tap water is high in hardness and alkalinity (as is common in places like Malta), do not use it—even if the pH has been adjusted. Its natural alkalinity can gradually raise your soil’s pH.
    • Opt for Low-Alkalinity Water: Use Reverse Osmosis (RO) water, carbon-filtered water, or rainwater to maintain your soil’s balance.

    2. Why This Matters:

    • Alkalinity and Cations: Tap water often contains free cations (such as calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum) that react with CO₂ and water to form carbonates. These carbonates can raise your soil’s pH to around 8-8.5, which may harm your plants.

    3. Correcting High pH Levels:

    • Quick Fix: Use ammonia or urea-based fertilizers; these typically adjust the pH within 2-7 days.
    • Longer-Term Solutions:
      • Elemental Sulfur: Can take from 2 weeks up to 2 years to lower pH.
      • Iron Sulfate: Offers an almost immediate pH correction.
      • Other Acidic Regulators: Explore additional options based on your garden’s specific needs.

     

    4. Emergency Flushing Procedure:

    • When pH is Too High: If your soil’s pH climbs above 7, you can perform an emergency flush.
    • How to Flush:
      • Prepare water that has been adjusted to a pH of 5.5 or 6.
      • Thoroughly “sock” or fill the pot with this flush water, then allow several liters to pass through the pot.
      • Discard the initial runoff, then repeat the process with fresh pH-adjusted water.
      • Test the runoff periodically until the pH reaches approximately 6-6.5—always ensuring it is below 7.
      • Once the desired pH is achieved, you can stop the flushing process.
